Twitter Reacts As KKR Defeat MI To Keep Their Playoffs Hopes Alive In IPL 2022

The 56th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) was played between Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) and Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on Monday, May 9.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 52 runs against Mumbai Indians to win their 5th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and their playoffs hopes are still alive.

Earlier, the Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first and they made one forced change to the playing XI as Ramandeep Singh replaced Suryakumar Yadav, who has been injured and ruled out of the entire tournament.

On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders once again made plenty of changes to the playing XI as Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, Pat Cummins, Sheldon Jackson and Ajinkya Rahane replaced Shivam Mavi, Anukul Roy, Aaron Finch, Baba Indrajith and Harshit Rana in the playing XI.

Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane opened the innings for the Knight Riders and all-rounder Daniel Sams opened the attack for Mumbai Indians and he gave away just 4 runs in the first over.

In the 6th over Kumar Kartikeya got the first breakthrough for Mumbai Indians (MI) by dismissing opening batsman Venkatesh Iyer, who scored 43 runs off 24 balls, including 3 fours and 4 sixes, and at the end of the powerplay, KKR were at 64 / 1.

Kumar Kartikeya picked up the second wicket of the match by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane for 25 in the 11th over. Soon Shreyas Iyer was cleaned up by Murugan Ashwin in the 14th over. In the 15th over Jasprit Bumrah produced a two-wicket over by dismissing Andre Russell and Nitish Rana.

Then, Bumrah produced a magical triple wicket maiden over in the 18th over of the match by dismissing Sheldon Jackson, Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine. With the help of Bumrah’s magical spell and other bowlers ’decent performance, Mumbai Indians were able to restrict Kolkata Knight Riders at 165/9.

Chasing the target, Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 2 in the first over by pacer Tim Southee and 19-year-old Tilak Varma was dismissed by Andre Russell in the 5th over. At the end of the powerplay, Mumbai Indians were at 37/2.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan and Ramandeep Singh had a 37 runs partnership before the latter was dismissed by Andre Russell in the 11th over.

After that, it was MI’s batting horror show as Tim David was dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy in the 13th over and Pat Cummins produced a 3-wicket over in the 15th over by dismissing Ishan Kishan, Daniel Sams and Murugan Ashwin. In the end, Kieron Pollard failed once again and the Mumbai Indians were bowled out for 113.
